Sacramento to Port Angeles, Washington – 19 May 2022

On our trip down to California we had stayed at Redding RV Park. While there Derek had noticed the JGW RV Resort and made a note to book it on the return trip. We were glad he did, as the RV resort was a lovely green resort on the banks of the Sacramento river. Nice private, shady site with our own patch of grass. After lunch, we went for a walk with Jax along the river but unfortunately the river access was fenced off at the end of the resort, so we ended up walking back towards the road and walked through another resort just up the road. We were both a little too tired to do any further exploring.

The following day we made our way to Waiika Resort in Yreka.  An interesting little resort run by an eccentric looking woman in a cowboy hat, who very kindly ushered us into our site. We were a little intrigued by Yreka and after googling – the top things to do in Yreka, settled on a walk at the Greenhorn Park.  The Park extended around a Reservoir filled with ducks, geese and many types of birds. We also saw several squirrels and deer. Yreka was, in the past, an old mining town and there were several mining relics in the park including a waterwheel, an Assay office and blacksmith.  Also an old mine with boarded opening and ore crusher. We walked several of the trails around the park, before picking up some groceries and drinks at the grocery store for the next day. As we were moving into a cooler climate now, our freezer that we were using as a fridge, suddenly started functioning as a freezer again and all my salad veggies were frozen and ruined. It was so frustrating. We still had not managed to get hold of Norcold to confirm a replacement of the fridge. Now we are trying to get a representative to replace it when we get to Lake Country, BC in mid June.

From Waiika we travelled to Canyonville and crossed from California into Oregon. We stopped on the way in at a Lion Energy Battery distributor and were able to purchase two more Lithium batteries. Derek had been having issues with the Inverter not performing as it should and had been advised to purchase more batteries. Let’s hope this works!

Seven Feathers resort was a welcoming site. It looked so different from when we had stayed there in March. No more bare trees and misty mountains.  Beautiful flowering trees, blooms and green mountains and a little creek that runs through the bottom of the resort.  Such a pretty place to stay.

These 1 day trips are really starting to tire us out and I am finding it really difficult to sleep.  I seem to have this habit of waking up at 3am and cannot go back to sleep.  So I get up and work till about 6am and then go back to bed for an hour or so. Its like my body is getting used to this pattern and its driving me mad. Im going to dose myself with sleeping tablets for a few nights to see if I can break the cycle.

We were going to go for a hot tub but the pool and hot tub was full of kids. Instead we took Jax for a walk around the property and played ball with him in their dog park.  We spent the rest of the afternoon lazing on the grass outside the RV with the animals, enjoying the warm (but not hot!) sunshine.

As we travelled from Canyonville to Coburg the geography got greener and greener. When we lived in British Columbia we really took this lush, green beauty for granted. Having come from the desert we are really appreciating it again.

When we arrived at the Premier RV Resorts of Eugene we were ushered in by one of the staff who proceeded to direct Derek into the pull in site. I didn’t bother helping as they seemed to have it in hand, however, something made me look out of the window and saw that we were almost on top of a tree on my side. I jumped out to assist but we were already stuck in the tree and when Derek moved forward I heard a big crunch. The branch had ripped a hole in one part of our front awning and also torn off and broke the plastic corner of the awning pole.  We really didn’t need another issue with the RV!  Anyway nothing could be done so we just got settled in and Derek patched up the awning as best as he could for now.  After lunch I explored the RV park with Jax and discovered a dog wash – so much to his disgust I was able to give him a much needed bath. We also found a lovely lake towards the back of the resort.  We were able to sit on a bench on the jetty and enjoy the peace and quiet. The rest of the afternoon was spent catching up on personal finances, blogs and some work. We drove out to get some groceries a little later as Derek had a hankering for some BBQ. We felt a little tired again so didn’t have the energy to do much exploring around town – lets hope for a bit more shut eye tonight.

Up early again and on to Centralia, Washington. Along the way, we passed field upon field of small white flowers. These were Meadowfoam, the seed of which is used in a number of cosmetic and personal care products. Once we arrived at Midway RV park we had some lunch and  went for a much needed walk to stretch our legs.  Seminary hill natural area was a very green forested area just on the outskirts of town. All along the dirt paths, we saw tons of large slugs coming out to dry themselves after the rain.  We were just taking a breather when we met a man walking along the trail. It turns out he was the designer and maintainer of the trails. He gave us some pointers as to which trails to follow and we continued on until we reached a reservoir at the top of the hill with a view of the city.

After a hectic morning battling with traffic as we drove through Portland, we finally pulled into KOA Port Angeles.  The weather was overcast and raining, much the same as we had experienced when we first came over the border in February – no wonder the fields are so green here. Jax was happy to escape from the car and visit the dog run again to get his wriggles out.  At this point, we were feeling quite exhausted from all the one night visits and looking forward to being in one spot for a few weeks and catching up with family and friends again. Luckily the KOA is only about 10 minutes away from the Ferry so we don’t have to get up too early!
