Port Angeles to Victoria, British Columbia – 25 May 2022

A short trip on the Port Angeles Ferry in pouring rain and we were back home again. We pulled into Fort Victoria RV Park and breathed a heavy sigh of relief.  Well no rest for the wicked – what followed was a whirlwind of visits with family and friends, shopping, visits to the dog wash store and business storage and lots of medical visits. Some of the highlights of our stay in Victoria included a couple of trips to Vancouver to see our first Dog Wash building and also to receive and process 15 dog wash machines that had arrived from Australia. We worked on them for 2 days solid outside in the rain. On Derek’s birthday which was the 10 June, we were able to celebrate with everyone at his favourite BBQ restaurant – Montanas.  We were also able to see Liam’s (our Grandson’s) Sea Cadets year end parade. Finally, we managed to see the latest Top Gun movie and had numerous dinners with family and friends to catch up.

Fort Victoria is turning out to be a very good base for us when we come backwards and forwards to Victoria. It is a short distance from services and shops and has some wonderful trails in walking distance. Jax and I would take off every day in a different direction and were always discovering some new trail or lake nearby. I also like the staff at Fort Victoria. Always friendly and will go out of their way to help you.

One of the really down moments of our trip was finding out that Minnie Min had advanced Lymphoma of the stomach and organs.  At her last vet visit in the States we were told she had probable kidney disease and was put on special kidney prescription food. The vet had said she had a growth in her abdomen that needed an ultra sound and I had scheduled the appointment with her Victoria vet so we could attend to it as soon as we got back.  Minnie min hated the kidney food and was getting thinner and thinner.  If she ate a couple of teaspoons a day, that was a lot. When we found out about her cancer we asked if she needed to stay on the prescription food and they said she didn’t. So, Derek went out and bought her all time favourite Whiskas food (that you can only buy in Canada). When he put the package of food on the counter she got all excited and tried to immediately open a container. Im pleased to say that since then her appetite has increased significantly – a combo of prednisone in the morning and Whiskas. She is even starting to be more alert and herself. Due to the advanced state of her cancer and her age, we are giving her palliative care. I hope she can still stick around to enjoy many more adventures with us.  She is such a good traveller now and I will miss her terribly when she is gone.
