Ingram to Canyon Lake – 11 February 2023
After a restful night we left for Canyon Lake. James Crump, Derek’s work colleague from Province of BC days, was living in Canyon Lake and had reached out to meet. We arranged to get together at 5 pm for dinner.
What was supposed to be a quick trip ended up being a bit of a slog as we had the wrong address from RV trip wizard so Siri sent us in the opposite direction. We eventually found another address and got to Canyon lake safely.
Potters Creek Park is a beautiful campground on the banks of Canyon lake. This lake is recognized as having the clearest water of any Texas lake and is a beautiful turquoise colour. Canyon lake is a man made lake that came about after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began working on a dam construction project nearby in the late 50’s. The project created such an economic boon for the area, that a new town called Canyon City was established in 1958. The dam was completed and water control began in 1964, forming Canyon Lake. Today it has a 60 mile lakefront and is over 80 ft at its deepest.
Our site was on the edge of the lake with beautiful views, it seemed such a pity to just stay overnight. After setting up and taking Jax for a walk we met James and his girlfriend Susan at the Café Guadalajara for dinner. The menu was very extensive and I eventually settled on a chicken enchilada with green sauce and Derek had the Texan plate. We both had these enormous margaritas – I had to hold mine with two hands. I had the Mango and he had the Lemon.
Great evening with delicious food and good company.
