Lomond River to Grand Falls-Windsor, New Foundland – 5 August 2023
Grand Falls-Windsor turned out to be the largest town we had visited so far in NL. We were quite excited at the prospect of being able to get some decent groceries and other stuff on our list.
We were originally schedule to stay at Grand Falls for 5 days, but as we were a little behind the ball, we only managed to stay 2. Our plan had been to visit two of our customers and to service their dog wash machines. Patches Pet Supply, a pet store, was only about 6 minutes drive from the Campsite, but Skippers Dog Wash was over an hour away. So once again, we reworked our plans and pushed out Skippers for the return trip.
The Campsite we stayed in had very nice green, well kept sites and a large lake across the road which you could get to through a trail at the bottom of the campsite. They obviously liked Moose as there were lots of plant boxes and Moose cutouts everywhere. Just wished we could have seen a live one!
The following morning we met with the Manager of Patches Pet Supply which had a lovely separate dog wash room for their 2 dog wash machines. Derek immediately got started on the servicing and I took Jax for a walk in the area. I found the Corduroy Nature Centre and Trails just up the road and discovered that they had a small restaurant which was pet friendly – BONUS!! This was the first pet friendly restaurant we had found in the whole of NL. I decided to take Jax for a walk on one of the trails before getting some food and as I started out the heavens opened again, and down came the rain, so I turned around and walked back to the dog wash. I spent the next couple of hours helping Derek after I had given Jax a nice bath in one of the dog washes.
After we were finished we drove over to the Nature Centre and had a late breakfast and the nicest Cappuccino I have had for a while. There were lots of interesting displays in the Centre covering everything from animals to plants and I had several engaging conversations with the staff. Before embarking on another wet walk we decided it was high time to upgrade our water repellant (not so much) wind jackets to a more suitable light waterproof jacket. Luckily we found a Sports Chek in the area and found just what we were looking for. We then returned to the Nature Centre and spent the next hour walking through the wetlands.
That evening we headed for the nearest grocery store and at last got some fresh groceries at a decent price. At that stage we were quite pooped and headed for the nearest Jungle Jims (again) for a bite to eat.
