Glen Margaret to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia – 9 September 2023
From Glen Margaret we continued south to Lunenburg. The town, which is a UNESCO historic site, was beautiful. The houses, many from the 1800’s, designed in an English colonial style, were painted in all different colours and beautifully restored. We walked around the wharf and the town admiring all the buildings. We stopped at the Fish Shack and had some beers and also shared a lobster roll, something I had been meaning to do for a while. Afterwards we went to Derek’s choice for supper – a smoked BBQ joint and had tacos with brisket and pork. All very delicious.
The next day was hike day. Not wanting a repeat of the rocky trail we opted for a flat walk and chose the Bay to Bay trail which runs from Lunenburg to Mahone Bay. The weather had been holding nicely and the trail was very pleasant. Afterwards we drove to Mahone Bay and had tea and cakes at the Tea Brewery before walking down to the oceanside and admiring the three historic churches they had across the road.
Monday morning we visited Mikiz Pittstop and Doggy wash, our very first dog wash customer. Alex Pittman the owner was in his restaurant when we arrived. This was the first time we met him face to face after years of conversing over the phone. Alex, a young guy in his 30’s is completely blind and quite the inspiration. After Derek had serviced the machine and I had taken some videos for our business records, we went into Lunenburg for some lunch at the Grand Banker Bar and Grill. We chatted to a man at a table next to us from Nova Scotia who had purchased a lighthouse with a number of friends.
After lunch, we took a drive to Blue Rocks, a very small fishing village and popular Kayak spot. It was an extremely foggy day and made for some very interesting photos off the coast.
Our last night in Lunenburg and we had Karen Irving over for a BBQ dinner. Karen and I worked on a health project together many year’s ago when I worked at Sierra. She was born in Nova Scotia and moved back here a couple of year’s ago. It was lovely seeing her and catching up. We used to have a lot of laughs when we worked together.
