Campbellville to Petrolia, Ontario – 11 October 2023

Spent a couple of days staying in the beautiful Lorne C Henderson conservation area. Fantastic place to camp surrounded by forests, lakes and trails. Hundreds of different birds. The park is situated in Petrolia, which is in southwestern Ontario. Petrolia is called “Canada’s Victorian Oil Town” and credited with starting the oil industry back in 1866.  We walked through the main street in Petrolia which had its fair share of old homes and commercial buildings. One old home was used in the movie “Scary stories to tell in the dark.” They really went to town with their Thanksgiving decorations in a public park on the main street which was lovely to see.

Went for a couple of lovely hikes in the park taking in all the beautiful fall colours. They had lots of tall corn fields which were just waiting to be harvested.

After a week of overcast, wet, windy weather we finally got a sunny day so we drove to Sarnia to pick up some shopping and stopped at the Big Family Brewing Company for lunch. While Jax was kept occupied with chewing a bone on the grass, we enjoyed a lovely lunch. My broasted Pickerel was the best I have ever tasted. Yumm. Derek was equally impressed with his burger. And the beers were delightful.
