Houston to Talkeetna, Alaska – 18 August 2024
Weather has been getting cooler here and Talkeetna, where we were stayed for a few days, was ideal breeding ground for a variety of interesting fungi. Talkeetna is the staging area for over 1,000 climbers who attempt to climb Mt Denali each year.
Talkeetna offer many flightseeing tours around the Denali mountain and the Denali National park and preserve. This was something I had been planning and looking forward to for a long time. Derek opted not to do the flight and stayed and looked after Jax. My flight was at 8am in the morning through Talkeetna Air Taxi. I was on a small aircraft with about 9 other people. I snagged a seat right at the front and was able to take some really nice footage of Denali mountain and the Alaskan range and also of glaciers and the tundra area on the north side of the Denali park.
I had very carefully selected a window of good weather on one of the days we were in Talkeetna and it turned out to be the best day they have had for a very long time. Everything was perfect and certainly an experience I will remember for many year’s to come.
After the flight, Derek collected me from the airport and we drove into Talkeetna for a coffee. Talkeetna had a very quaint main street filled with gift shops, food trucks and restaurants. We purchased a coffee at a coffee truck called “You need some coffee” and then purchased at another food truck the biggest Breakfast Burrito I have ever seen.
