Beaver Creek to Haines Junction, Yukon – 6 September 2024
Derek was quite psyched up for the next leg of the journey which was the worst part of the Alaska highway. Thanks to the new axles and some experience in handling the potholes and wash board roads, the trip to Haines Junction went without a hitch.
Again spectacular Fall scenery along the way as with Alaska.
We had planned to stay in Kathleen Lake, a provincial campground but when we arrived and got out of the car, we were swarmed by mosquitoes and bugs. After our last experience we were not in the mood for struggling so we promptly turned around and drove the 20 minutes back into Haines Junction to the campground we had stayed in on the way in.
The entrance was cordoned off as they were doing some ground work but we accessed it through a different route and were given a site on the end. This was also the end that the front loaders were coming around to work on the ground. It was a little nerve racking watching them go around our slides with inches to spare.
After a long day of travel we walked over to the pub next door for a bite to eat and a couple of beers, before settling in for the evening.
