Bakersfield to Orangeland – 19 April 2022
Orangeland RV Resort was a lovely resort tucked away in a bit of an industrial area, but in close walking distance to Starbucks and a ton of restaurants. The resort had everything one needed with a massive pool, hot tub, outdoor activities, dog run and manicured lawns. We had a premium grassed site which was a good size with patio table, umbrella and 4 chairs and our own blossoming Orange tree. We were encouraged to pick the Oranges which were very sweet.
Our purpose for choosing Orangeland was its proximity to Disneyland, where we had bought tickets for a two day visit. We had planned the park visit months ago and were asked at the time of buying tickets to stipulate which days we would be visiting which parks. We realized now that scheduling two days one after the other at the parks was a big mistake, as it is quite exhausting walking them. Unfortunately, we were unable to reschedule so had to plan around it.
For the first few days we explored the area, bought groceries and caught up with work. We found a lovely walk at Peters Canyon regional park to take Jax. There were multiple trails all around the Canyon with a steep one up one of the mountains with lovely view
On Friday, which was the first scheduled day at Disneyland, we decided to get up around 6.30am and tire Jax out before leaving him for a few hours by himself. We enthusiastically headed out to a recommended walk along a nature reserve by the Santa Ana river. Well along the way we took the wrong path and ended up not being able to get back to where the car was and had to take a very long detour. So there we were an hour later still walking and our day at Disney had not even started. We eventually dropped Jax back at the RV and caught an Uber to Disney around 10.30am.
Disney was just as we remembered – with just as many crowds as before. We headed out and spent the next few hours waiting in lines and trying out rides. Around 330pm we went back home again, totally exhausted and fell into bed for a nap. After another walk with Jax we were back again around 7pm to watch the fireworks. We tried to get another ride in but lines were too long, missed the parade and couldn’t find a place to sit to watch the fireworks. That was the end of day one at Disney.
Saturday, we crawled out of bed with a little less enthusiasm than the day before, and took Jax for a shorter walk in the area close to the resort. This time we went to the California Adventure park. We managed to get on our favourite river raft ride and headed for the new Star wars area where we waited about 40 mins to try out their new ride. After that we were done! We made our way to a mexican restaurant on the pier and sat and waited for our online lunch order while drinking beer. The day went steadily downhill from there. Having expended so much energy the day before, we could not face walking backwards and forwards or standing in ride lines for 35 mins or longer. We bought ourselves an ice cold Starbucks and went back to the RV. The magic was out of the system!!
It was around this time that our fridge started giving us problems. It would just not get cold. We ended up putting what we could into our outside fridge and emptied it out. Still didn’t help. Luckily the freezer seemed to be working.
Another issue we were having was that our router had packed in, which meant that we were constantly having to tap into our phones and work using cellular. We mailed the router back to the manufacturer when we were in Senora and were waiting to receive it at Orangeland. However, by the time we left, the router still hadn’t arrived.
