Canyonville to Medford, Oregon – 5 March 2022
The trip to Medford was pretty uneventful. Nice scenery through Grants pass as we made our way to our second Harvest host – Edenvale Winery. Just a short way off the highway we were suddenly at our destination. The scenery was transformed into fields and fields of orchards and grapes. We were directed over the phone by our host Erin to park in between the wine barrels in a lovely green field to the side of the winery. Bonus – not a soul in sight!
Luckily we had a couple of 2×6 lengths of wood that we had managed to get from the staff at Veterans Memorial, which we were able to use as support for the RV legs as the ground was quite soft. Need to buy some Anderson buckets which we see most RVers using, which are a lot lighter than carrying the wood.
Jax was thrilled to have the field all to himself and we let him chase his ball until he was good and tired and we were able to make our way to the wine tasting room. The wine tasting room was off the patio where several people were enjoying a glass of wine. We enjoyed some tasters – me sticking with the ciders and whites and Derek with the reds while munching on a delectable charcuterie board. Well so much for saving money – everything was so tasty we ended up spending almost $200 but it was worth it. After our wine tasting we took a glass of wine to the patio and relaxed by the firepit enjoying sweeping views of the farm and the mountains beyond it.
Erin our host was very friendly and shared some of the history about the farm which is run by a woman and her daughter. Their wines and their ciders have won numerous awards.
We made sure to visit “Hootie” the resident owl who was perched outside their barn and to explore their property.
Made me really want to buy a small farm. So peaceful and such a great place to live.
Our batteries are really not up to managing being off the hook and once again Derek had to wake up several times during the night to run the generator so we could keep warm. As soon as we are in a place for a couple of weeks we will be getting rid of our lead-acid flooded cell batteries and replace them with lithium iron phosphate batteries.
