Deming, New Mexico to Safford, Arizona – 2 April 2024

Roper Lake State Park was a very pleasant surprise. It was situated just below the snow capped Pinaleño Mountains and the views were spectacular. The sites were very large and we had our own shelter with a picnic table in it and a nice fire pit for BBQ-ing.

After organizing the RV, we went for a lovely walk around the lake which was turquoise in colour. On the side of the lake was a small island that you could walk across to several picnic areas and a small beach with palm trees. There were tons of different bird species in the area. We had a family of three Road Runners right outside our RV looking for bugs in the roots of the trees. I also saw several colourful birds like Cardinals and Grackles. The air was constantly filled with the sounds of many different bird calls.

We made use of the lovely weather and enjoyed a BBQ dinner outside. Such a lovely places we could have easily stayed here for an extended period.
