Fernie to Castlegar via Cranbrook, British Columbia – 4 October 2024

The campsite in Cranbrook was called the St Eugene campground after its neighbour the beautiful St Eugene Mission which had been converted into a Casino and hotel . The Mission was situated on a large golf course with several restaurants onsite, one in a restored, large red barn. The property was very well maintained with fantastic views of mountains and a river running along the side of it. There were several eagles in the area making loud noises and also a farm across the road with a couple of Llamas, sheep and goats.
While in Cranbrook, we visited Kimberly Kritters, a pet store customer in nearby Kimberley and howling Jax was “treated” to his second bath in two days (he was not amused) we bought a tasty ice cream at the local ice cream parlour.
When we got back to the RV, we took Jax for a walk around the property so we could check out the Mission and its amenities. Later we returned for a swim and hot tub. The weather was quite pleasant and we met two other couples, both from Alberta, who were also avid RV’ers and swapped stories.
Castlegar, BC

Quite a long drive to Castlegar and we were quite tired when we finally arrived at the small campground. It took a while to manoeuvre into the back in site, as there was not much room to turn. Luckily there was a small pet run so Jax could let off some steam and run after the ball and didn’t have to have yet another bath. The campsite was situated at the foot of a mountain pass so not much of an area to walk. I did see a large bear poo near the pet run so I wasn’t keen to venture down the road too much.
