Lowgap, North Carolina to Natural Bridge, Virginia – 29 March 2023

A three hour drive and we had crossed the border from North Carolina to Virginia. I was looking forward to visiting the Natural Bridge State Park which I had read a lot about.

We camped in the KOA RV Resort which was about 7 mins from the State Park.  Not too busy this time of the year.  The KOA campsites are always really nice and well maintained, as was this one. We arrived early afternoon, quickly set up and then drove over to the park. We parked at the Visitor’s Center paid our entrance fee and then walked across the parking lot to the entrance of the trail which had stairs leading down to the bridge (147 of them). The Natural Bridge is a geological formation comprising a 215ft high natural limestone arch with a span of 90ft. It was formed by the Cedar Creek millions of years ago.

The entire trail was paved and had a short stone wall on both sides which led through the Arch of the bridge all the way to a waterfall at the end. Alongside the trail was a stream on both sides. Certainly worth the visit.

Back at the RV, Derek noticed that the slide from our bedroom had popped out its screws and was coming away from the frame of the RV. Derek managed to find a RV technician at our next stop and has arranged for us to have this attended to.  Hate to land up on the ground in the middle of the night!  As well, he had been in discussions with Grand Design as our fridge (which had been already replaced once in October) has been playing up again.  As soon as we hit hot weather the fridge stops working. Soooo frustrating. Also we are noticing several of the panels in the RV are buckling outward and need to be stapled or glued back in place. As our RV’s warranty is almost up, we need to get these fixed as soon as possible. After a year of dealing with RV Techs in different cities we decided the best course of action was to make a trip to the Grand Design factory in Indiana and get them to sort it out themselves. They finally committed to doing it mid October so we now need to fit that into our plans.

It would have been nice to have stayed longer in this area so we could explore it more but we had to keep on moving north in order to make our entrance back into Canada mid April.
