Montmagny to St. Philippe de Laprairie, Quebec – 4 September 2023
While in Montmagny I started getting a sore throat. I was convinced it was because I had rinsed my mouth with water while brushing my teeth in Rockwood where there was a boil advisory, but as we drove from Montmagny to Montreal, my nose started running continuously and I couldn’t stop sneezing. So that wasn’t much fun!
As we had visited Montreal before I wasn’t too concerned we were going to miss out on much, so I tried to drink lots and take it easy when we arrived. The following day we took a drive in the afternoon to Parc Jean Depane so we could walk around the park. Saw some great views of Montreal from across the Saint Lawrence. The Parc is divided into two islands – Saint Helen’s and Notre Dame Island. These islands were the site of the Expo 67 World’s fair. There were a few art pieces including a metal statue called Trois Disques which was a present from France in 1962.
We also saw the outside of the Biosphere. Unfortunately we couldn’t explore inside as we had Jax. Very impressive structure which can be seen for miles around. The outer layer consists of steel triangles and the inner a seven storey museum covering the parts of Earth where life exists – all ecosystems including soil, water and air. The dome is 206 feet high and covers 1,700,000 sq ft.
The following day we drove to Montreal to visit Kristine Perez who had recently purchased one of our K9000s for her Urban Loulou store. Derek needed to check out the dog wash door as it was leaking. When we got there she had a couple of dogs in the store and as Jax was going bananas, I took him for a walk around the neighbourhood so Derek could do what he needed to. I was feeling quite under the weather when I got back to her shop. Had a quick chat with her and then Derek and I went for a Latte down the street before returning home.
Next day we packed up everything in preparation for a trip across the border. We only realized the night before (with me not functioning 100%) that we would not be able to take all our meat, veg and food across the border and we had quite a lot of food. Also the rain was coming down in buckets which meant a long, slow drive. With all that in mind, we decided to stay another night in the KOA in Montreal and change our plans to not cross the border for a couple of nights, even though it was cheaper than staying in the Thousand Islands in Ontario. What we would gain in a less expensive campsite we would lose in food and alcohol we would have to replace. So we rejigged our plans slightly to stay in Canada and only go over the border just before getting to Indiana.
