Petrolia, Ontario to Jackson, Michigan – 13 October 2023

One of our longest travel days out.  Took about 1.5 hours just to get over the border. When we arrived at Greenacres Campground it was packed with tons of families celebrating Halloween. The campground was enormous with its own recreation centre, dirt bike race area, inflatable jumping area, courts etc, etc. Lots of children running around.  The RV next to us had a giant inflatable long man on the roof of the RV that was waving backwards and forwards, a lit up tent full of Halloween decorations as well as blaring music.  Luckily the noise died down quite early.

The following morning started with a downpour.  When that subsided I took Jax for a walk along a couple of forest trails surrounding the park.  The park was getting very busy again with the weather clearing and there were lots of kids running around with costumes on. I think they were having a halloween event in the recreation centre.

Grand Design had informed us that instead of 2 days to fix the RV which we had planned, they will need 3 weeks.  So now it was a mad scramble to rejig all the reserved campgrounds and look for places to stay while we wait for the RV. I decided that rather than stick in Elkhart, we could make use of the opportunity to see some nice places in the area, so I started working on a plan to visit a National park in Indiana, Chicago and Detroit and return to Ontario.  We needed to go back to Canada as our prescribed medication had run out and our BC doctors were requiring lab tests before renewing our scripts.
