Salem, Oregon to Port Angeles, Washington – 29 April 2024

Castle Rock, Washington

Dates: 27-28 April 2024

By this time we were very weary of the 1 day/2 day travels. Also it had been raining a lot and we just wanted to get back to Victoria  with no real interest in exploring the areas were passing through, in the rain.

Toutle River RV Park was quite a nice large RV park but we discovered that a railway track on the side of the campground. Trains ran all day and night and would whistle loudly.  That wasn’t the worst thing – there was so much vibration from the trains that the entire RV would shake violently every time a train went by.  It was quite annoying and we couldn’t wait to move on to the next site.

Jax’s feet were still messed up. Lots of red spots and constant licking was making them worse. I bathed his feet with epson salts and sprayed with an excellent hot spot spray.  Then I lathered his paws with loads of oil of oregano lotion before bandaging them up.  Luckily the ground was quite soft in the park so I could take him for short walks.  In the evening I would sometimes put his booties on top of his bandages so he wouldn’t pull the bandages off.  With all the inflammation he was smelling very yeasty and I started to add some Yeast medication that we carry.  It did help but for days he had the most terrible stinky farts.

While this was going on, Cay contacted me to tell me Harvey her Corgi dog was very sick. He was vomiting and had a runny stomach. This went on for a few days and there were fears that he had a parasite or maybe even an obstruction in his stomach.  Finally the vet did an ultra sound and fecal test and thank goodness, both were clear. He was diagnosed with Pancreatitis so they have to be careful to keep him on a low fat diet.

We popped across to one of the local malls and did a bit of clothes shopping and also grabbed a few things from Walmart that we weren’t able to get in Canada.

Port Angeles, Washington

Date: 29 April 2024

Back to the good old KOA in Port Angeles.  A great spot to overnight as it is very close to the ferry.  Jax was a bit more perky, obviously his feet were on the mend. The weather was a bit drizzly but we managed a few short walks around the park and a visit to the dog park.
