Victoria to Port Angeles, Washington – 28 February 2022
It was very exciting to finally leave for the US. We were a little nervous as to what to expect at Customs. I had read that pets might be required to have Rabies vaccines so I had both Minnie Min and Jax vaccinated just in case, and we carried copies of their certificates with us. I was also very aware that certain foods could not be taken over the border so we emptied the fridge in anticipation and gave all our fruits, veggies and meat to Lucy our daughter. We had purchased extra pet food for the animals which contained meats so I made sure that we kept everything sealed. It ended up being a breeze and before we knew it we were onboard the ferry for Port Angeles. The Ferry ride itself was about 90 minutes. We were allowed to take our pets upstairs to sit with us. They didnt have much in way of food – mainly fried stuff, so we ended up getting some chicken strips to tied us over and got rid of the fries.
When we arrived in Port Angeles we had an easy drive to the KOA RV park and were able to set up the RV without any trouble. There were no staff onsite but a brochure was pasted to the office door with our name and site number. The RV resort was mostly deserted except for what seemed to be some long termers. There were some nice views of the snow capped mountains and the resort was surrounded by green fields. It was fairly noisy at night as it was quite close to the road. However, we had a relaxing first night. We could at least let Jax run around off leash and chase his ball in their enclosed dog run.
