Whistler to Vancouver to Kamloops, British Columbia – 5 June 2024

Vancouver, British Columbia
5 June – 6 June, 2024

Back to Vancouver but this time to Peace Arch RV Resort which does not back onto a railway line.

That evening we drove to a customer’s house to prepare two dog wash machines for shipment. These machines were from a pet store in Vancouver which had closed down. We were buying these machines back and then reselling them as used, but first they needed a bit of refurbishment and also needed to be cleaned and packed properly for shipping.  The following day Derek was off again to the warehouse to complete the installation of a hot water heater in one of the new dog wash machines.

With our commitments at the warehouse now finally completed, we could start our journey North. I finally felt like my old self again and was looking forward to the trip. Our two night stop in Kamloops however, were mostly business again as we had scheduled a service of a dog wash at the Kamloops SPCA. We were very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful Kamloops was. Kamloops sits at the confluence of the North and South Thompson rivers. Its name is the English translation of the Shuswap word Tk’emlúps, which means “where the rivers meet.” It is nestled amongst the Cascade mountains with crystal clear rivers and lakes, and for those who enjoy the outdoors and hiking this is a great place to visit. We will definitely return for longer in the future so we can get out into the mountains.

Unfortunately, our day was swallowed up Derek providing the service and me taking a promotional video of the SPCA. Afterwards we treated ourselves to brunch at Coras’s which was delicious.

Before leaving Kamloops we stocked up at the grocery store. From our experience travelling through the remote areas in Newfoundland and the price and scarcity of items we like, we thought we had better buy as much as we can while we can.  Our next big shop will probably be Whitehorse but then there is always the challenge that we cant buy too much meat, veggies and fruit and alcohol as we aren’t allowed to take those goods across the border to Alaska.
